...With SlideRocket, every graphic that gets uploaded to a presentation becomes available in the asset library for reuse in other presentations. How many times did you search a given presentation on your laptop (or worse yet, scour through your corporate intranet) looking for that graphic to include in your presentation.

...Presentation Sharing - Just as easy as it is to collaborate on presentations, it’s easy to share presentations with employees, customers and prospects without having to email them that 14MB presentation.

...Metrics - After you have shared your presentation, you can see just how many people are viewing it and how long they spend on each slide. ... This feature does require a business account however (Currently, I am using the personal version since my company does not pay for it).

With any amount of success, I plan to add a semi-regular podcast and occasionally throw in some video content as well.

The idea for this blog came to me when I challenged myself on why I do not personally blog about my faith or my beliefs. ... I came to the conclusion that I am more afraid of being misunderstood than I am about sharing my belief system. I have been afraid of being stereotyped into one of many labels that are conjured up in the name of Christianity. ... As I thought through my fears and thoughts, I came up with the idea to focus an entire blog on these concepts as there are seemingly a vast pool of misrepresentations and mischaracterizations of what a Christian is and is not.

	▪	Performance: Page flips (screen refresh rate) are noticeably faster; it does not appear there is a lag like in the Kindle 1.

...	▪	Charging: I’m frustrated Amazon chose to go with micro-USB over mini-USB, but at least it does not require a large power plug.

	▪	Easter Eggs found in Kindle 1 look to have gone away in Kindle 2. Alt-B still works to toggle bookmark however which is handy now that it’s in the menu system instead of the scroll wheel.

...I will post an in-depth review and video review of the new Kindle over the weekend.

I have taken the price that I paid on the Kindle and compared that to the Amazon online price for the physical medium and also compared the publishers list price. I also have calculated the totals without newspapers and magazine subscriptions to be fair and to provide further analysis.

...	▪	All in, the actual cost of the Amazon Kindle is $106.50 (and getting cheaper all of the time)

...Another important point here is that even without a Kindle, don’t pay retail for your books!

Add the convenience of anytime shopping, dictionary & wikipedia reference, size of the device compared to carrying around reading material and I think $106 bucks is a bargain!

Rather than shelling out $400 for MS office, you can decide to solely work with Google Docs which provides roughly the same basic set of services over the Internet.

...As a sales professional who is subject to powerpoint decks all of the time, I have come to loathe the predictable death by powerpoint presentations that I'm so often subjected to. ... One of the best aspects of SlideRocket is the mere fact that my presentations live online and I don't have to shuttle files between computers when presenting which is often the case.

... MindMeister (replaces Mindjet's MindManager) - I've been a fan of mind-mapping applications for years and MindManager from Mindjet has been my go-to choice on the desktop. However recently, while I go back and forth between my work laptop and my personal desktop, I've not wanted to pay for two licenses of MindManager which rivals the cost of MS Office.

...A lot of people are concerned about personal security, but the fact that Mint does nothing transactional and only pulls information from your banking/investment institutions, I am not concerned in the least bit that a security risk is present.

...However, when I owned my business and also was in sales for AMX, I used highrise to manage not only my contact database but also tracked all communications with customers and partners.

Why I Upgraded to the Kindle 2

  1) Upgraded physical design - For me, the two biggest improvements with regards to the physical changes are the slim form factor and the page button configuration. I never complained about the first generation’s Kindle form factor, but thinner is obviously better and traveling light and compact is a high-priority for me in terms of what I look for in my technology bag.

...2) Re-sale value for Kindle 1 - The fact that the Kindle 2 is not a giant leap forward means that the street value for the first gen Kindle will remain strong and frankly is my cost justification to upgrade. Had they introduced a much larger screen and/or color e-ink or something else mind-blowing, the street value of the first Kindle would probably plummet.

3) New UI - There are enough design improvements in the UI (from what I can tell) that makes me look forward to the Kindle 2. ... I am sad to see it go as it was a unique and creative navigation technique; but if I now have more direct control of navigation by cursor control, than it’s an obvious improvement.

I realize there are other improvements such as screen performance and battery life, but those things alone are not as high on my list and are not items that I complained about in the original Kindle.

Apple has gotten so much right with the iPhone and solved the biggest hurdles in mobile technology long before anyone has even thought to address; but the simple stuff like cut & paste keeps being swept under the rug.

...Passing contact information to other applications - One of my biggest issues is not having the ability to simply send an SMS or email with someone else’s phone number attached (copy/paste would do the trick here too). I would like to open a contact, pick a number or email address and have the option to send another contact this information. As it stands now, if someone asks me for a number I have in my contacts, I have to pull it up, write it down, and then type it in manually to send the information over (or memorize it, but that’s why we have hand-held computers, no?)

...If you are a Mac user, than you know how OS X can spring-board content from the dock (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, than click here).

...Google Maps with directions and GPS can get me by, but it’s no replacement for a true real-time turn-by-turn GPS solution.

At the airport, the BART station (San Francisco Bay Area subway/rail system) and on the airport rail, I definitely took advantage of this feature when there was no where else to sit.

...The best way to describe this system is that it works more like a locker than a flat piece of luggage.

...Lest you think I am getting paid for this as a covert marketer of the product, there is one caveat and one lingering question I have. The caveat is that even though the Zuca Pro is compact, because of the metal frame, it won’t fit short-ways in an overhead bin on an airplane as some soft luggage pieces do. It needs to go into the bin ‘sideways’ and if you are in the unfortunate position of limited overhead space, you might be out of luck. ... I’m not expecting this to happen mind you but that is one area that I will be watching out for.

I would argue that if you are not giving back in some way to your audience, your twitter value is depreciating faster than your home value.

...In a relatively recent blog post, Julia Roy has suggested that you should have roughly the same amount of people following you that you also follow. ... However if their own ratio is somewhat close and they post on a semi-regular basis, than I will most likely follow them back.

...If you suggest in a tweet to follow someone else, tell your audience why they should follow them.

...While it's perfectly acceptable to point people to your website or a blog entry or your own videos on YouTube, if all you are doing with Twitter is pure self-promotion, I am not interested in following you. On the same note, if you post and re-post in succession (the same tweet) several times, than I would consider this twitter abuse.

Being a good Twitter citizen can basically be summed up with one question: Am I just looking for attention or am I giving something back in the process?

... Of course, there are other e-ink readers, but none with wireless access with the ability to instantly download a book, magazines, newspapers and limited Internet content. This single attribute remains the killer feature that no one can touch yet and is why I recommend the Kindle over every other reader on the market.

I’ve been blogging since 2003 and have experimented with several formats, topics and tools . My last blogging project was ‘interface’ and was my longest running blog with the focus on technology and design, the two topics that I am fairly passionate about. ...
