In an earlier blog post, I briefly made mention of wanting to get into the world of luxury time pieces and watch trading. My interest in analog design and passion for traditional watches, make this a perfect hobby and pastime for me to learn and have fun with. I took the month of December (2024) to really dive into learning about how this world works and even signed up for some formal training on what separates successful traders from people who just sit on the sidelines. Ten:Ten is my launch into this world.
Why Ten:Ten?
Curious name, right? Look at any ad for a watch, and what time of day do you see that the watch is set at? Yup: 10:10. Supposedly, when the hands are at this position, it produces the best way to display the design of a watch in a clear way. Fun fact, ask AI to produce a watch drawing or illustration and will always produce a watch that shows 10:10. Why? Because that is what it is trained on. Try telling it to show a different time and most likely, it won't.
No website or fanfare -- you will simply just see a Ten:Ten section on my personal website. This is where I will showcase the watches in my inventory or are selling (brokering) on someone else's behalf. So, if you are looking for a reputable source to either find a watch, sell a watch or buy a watch, definitely get in touch!
To launch into this world, I've decided to sell a couple of watches I have in my personal collection. I would not have ever classified myself as a 'collector', but that might change as this progresses. I am definitely focused on the buying/selling/trading aspect of this world versus the collecting side.
The very first offering from Ten:Ten — I am staring with my first ever luxury watch purchase from 2021: The Panerai Luminor Marina. Details here.
The story behind this watch? While I had heard of Panerai and seen some variants over the years, my first real exposure to one in the wild was this: The company I was working for back in 2014, called Lithium, awarded its top sales producers with Panerai watches. These were the top performers in our company and they were all given a $8K watch! For me, this signaled success. From that moment, I told myself I wanted a Panerai of my own. Prior to me owning a luxury timepiece, my only exposure was gifting a Cartier watch to a girlfriend in 2000.
During my training in December of last year, the organization supplied a spreadsheet tracker to help new traders keep tabs on their inventory and sales. I thought I could build a better system, so while I was learning about trading, I put my technical skill to work to produce MovementOS - https://mvmtos.com. Really, I built this for me, but have put this out there for other traders who want to move beyond the spreadsheet for managing their trading business.

Cheers to 2026! Let's get past the screen and digital experiences to something more real!
